As a grandparent, you do not automatically enjoy the same rights to access as a parent. However, you can launch an appeal to the Family Court if you believe you are being unfairly excluded from a child’s life.

Grandparents have the ability to play a vital role in the development and well-being of children, and this can be recognised by the court.

Once you have been granted the right to contact by a family court, you can then apply to obtain a Child Arrangement Order. This sets out your legal entitlements, including the nature and frequency of your contact with your grandchildren.
